Itinerary

Stop 1 Citadel

The Citadel is the heart of the Casbah, the ancient fortress that once served as the residence of the Ottoman rulers and a military stronghold. Perched at the highest point of the old city, it offers panoramic views over Algiers and the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors can explore its fortified walls, gates, towers, and inner courtyards while learning about its role in defending the city and its transformation during French colonization. The Citadel also preserves traces of palaces, mosques, and hammams that reflect the Ottoman architectural legacy.

Stop 2 Stah El Bahdja (Rooftop)

This rooftop location provides a breathtaking vantage point over the dense urban fabric of the Casbah. From Stah El Bahdja, visitors can admire the labyrinth of narrow streets, whitewashed houses, minarets, and the shimmering blue of the sea in the background. The rooftop stop allows for a moment of reflection on the urban structure, the harmony between architecture and landscape, and the Casbah’s role as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s an ideal spot for photographs and storytelling about daily life in the Casbah.

Stop 3 Dar Mustapha Pacha

Dar Mustapha Pacha is one of the finest examples of Ottoman palace architecture in the Casbah. Built in the 18th century for the Ottoman ruler Mustapha Pacha, this residence combines elegance and refinement, with ornate tile work, carved wooden ceilings, marble fountains, and inner courtyards filled with light. Visitors can wander through its grand halls and intimate rooms while learning about the lifestyles of the Ottoman elite and the blending of Arab, Berber, and Mediterranean artistic influences. Today, it often hosts cultural exhibitions and art events.
